HELLO ART TUMBLR! how are you all doing?
so i have officially finished college classes forever*!!!!! technically they were done on tuesday, but i had meetings with kelly murphy yesterday (the results of which will be posted shortly…) and then an exit interview with adam miller and scott listfield that went really well and was super encouraging! a billion thanks to them and kelly too.
however, even though i might be done with classes, i’m not slowing down! competitions loom ahead, along with future shows, and of course, self-promotion out the wazoo. plus maybe enjoying the sunshine and nice weather???
here’s what’s ahead in the world of mori’s art:
i will be selling prints, buttons, and headbands at the ColossalCon Artist Alley, in Sandusky, Ohio, June 9th-11th! swing by to purchase some sweet stuff, order a commission- or just say hello! :) print-wise i’ll be selling some of my original pieces, along with a few fanart pieces, including Sherlock, Sailor Moon, Persona4, and Korra.
i am now listed on society6! if you’d like some super high quality prints of my thesis/study work, along with iphone or laptop covers of my business cats print, that’d be where to go.
i’ll be updating my etsy store shortly, as well- both with prints, and then whatever is left over from Colossalcon’s run of items.
once i get back from Colossalcon, too, i will be officially open for summer commissions- more on that when that comes around.
(*- grad school would be nice, though! but definitely not next year. curse you medical debt.)

Third in the set: “Coyote and the Columbia River”, from the Sahaptin and Salishan tribes.
I think this is by far my favourite of the three pieces, probably because it was done last, ahahaha. This piece inspired me to go back into the previous two and boost them up!
Also curious that it’s one of the few pieces I’ve done (and the only in my show) to not feature any humans. I really enjoy drawing animals, but I don’t do it as oft… I guess I’ve always been under the impression that I had to find a way to interpret them into my style, instead of realizing that since I was the one drawing them, they’d already be interpreted. Hmm…..

Illustration of the Choctaw Corn Legend, from my set of Native American pieces. I wanted to do a Choctaw piece in particular, since I’m potentially 1/16th? Rumor has it that my great-great grandfather was one, but we don’t know for sure since my great-grandmother reportedly destroyed everything from the culture that she had. Maybe when I have the time and money to sink into some research, I will do so.
Second done in the series - I learned something new in each of these pieces, since I haven’t worked in graphite too heavily before. Every piece is an experiment in itself and can teach me something new! For instance, I started messing around more with white overlays on top, and created a pencil brush in photoshop as to not be too jarring.

even though my show is in less than a week, homework still continues. self-portrait for seminar!
i tried to capture the horrible anxiety that i had last year as the result of my gallbladder deciding to ollie out of my body. the anxiety wasn’t necessarily about the surgery, per say, but it messed with my internal systems in such a way that was awful.
i’m much less anxious now, of course, but it seemed like a fun topic in retrospect, so, wha-la.
