fanart for the bbc’s sherlock, which is only my newest obsession. haven’t painted using SAI in a long time, or painted realistic portraits, so this was interesting practice.
oddly, while i used a few photo references, i didnt base this pic off of any one picture of these two- sherlock was actually done mostly from memory, with only a few checks to get his jaw right. ive looked at his face too much lately trying to figure out how it works!
john, on the other hand, was a nightmare- martin freeman’s lovely visage is pretty damn tough to get in the side profile, and since he’s such an everyman, the slightest tweak has him looking…. not like him at all. i got him to look right for a second, and then the slightest touch of purple had him looking like a perfect blend of jake gyllenhaal and george clooney. it still looks a bit off if i look at it too long, but i cant really move my hand anymore, so i’m calling it good. (for now.)
so hey! i just realized i never posted this up on here, so! here is the cover illustration and an inside page illustration i did for north shore art*throb, as part of an assignment through my editorial illustration class - “art is where you find it” was the prompt. the art director ended up picking my pieces, and so you can pick up january’s issue of the magazine at various boxes on the streets of the north shore.
yeah!!!!! c:
concept art for an animation i want to do. it’s hamtrix! which is now named hidden hearts (as of 1:30 am so it might change tomorrow) so it’s bound to be 100% self-gratifying and not making much sense to anyone outside of myself, but that’s okay because it’s winter break and i want to make something silly and self-gratifying. it’ll at least get to an animatic stage i hope.
stay tuned?????
here’s a piece i redid for editorial- the article was about tattoos and the shifting of the typical person who gets one? it was the first assignment for class and i really didn’t do too well on it imho ahahaha. so i repainted it in like an hour and a half last week because finals week!!!
still could use some work but that’ll be for this upcoming break i think.
final for character creation! queen bee (sick of her yet??) in her sort of throne area.
still have a ton of touch-ups to do with this one in january (i forgot all the bees????) but overall i’m still really proud of the background and lighting in this, so, yeah!
final illustration set for thesis- ‘the little mouse princess’. center piece is the main piece, with two vignettes.
i actually like the second vignette the most out of these…. since i worked on these one at a time instead of all at once, there’s a difference in quality? i guess i got better?? hum hum!
this is from a few weeks back, but i touched it up a bit and now i like it a bit more. assignment from character creation, an abstracted character in a detailed scenery. i went a bit literal with it and did the dying swan, because i like ballet i guess.
Finals are finally over!!!
Deep sigh of relief. Let me tell you, finals become a lot less fun with chronic stomach conditions. But I put all the times and the efforts in, and I feel like I’ve definitely got some strong pieces out of this semester, so there’s that.
Will be polishing a few of them and then throwing those up onto here in the next few days- although I don’t have a final eval and could choose to jet out of here tomorrow, I’m sticking around in the bev until this Sunday. Then I will be home for a month and will attempt to catch up on sleep, and will eat food that I don’t have to personally pay for. can’t wait.
also of note: while Team Bear To Honey scored fourth place overall in the fighting tournament King of the ILL, Queen Bee herself was voted Most Aesthetic!! Since that was perhaps my overall intention (I like pretty things!!!!), I was really glad to win that. :) Thanks to all the members of the faculty panel who voted in Bee’s favour!
Have a cat.

doodle of queen bee, post elimination.
